Common Repairs

Everyday console issues

Start here — these are what most customers walk in with. Usually same-day.

Overheating & loud fans

Console loud, hot, throttling? Nine times out of ten it is years of dust. Full clean, fresh thermal paste, back in your hands.

Power issues

Won't turn on, keeps shutting off, no video, dies mid-game. Could be a bad power supply, blown fuse, or a board-level issue. We diagnose and quote first.

Disc drive problems

Won't read discs, disc stuck, drive won't eject, grinding noises. From cleaning and lubrication all the way to full drive replacement.

Controller stick drift

All controllers. Cleaning and recalibration for mild cases; module replacement or Hall Effect upgrade otherwise. Usually same-day.

Controller buttons & shells

Sticky buttons, broken triggers, cracked shells, controllers that won't charge. Back-button add-ons and custom shells too.

Fan & heatsink replacement

If cleaning is not enough and the fan itself is failing, we can source and replace the fan or full heatsink assembly.

Switch Joy-Con drift

Joy-Con drift is basically a guarantee with enough use. We replace the analog stick module and recalibrate. Hall Effect upgrades available. Usually same-day.

Software & system issues

Won't boot, stuck on update, corrupted saves, storage errors. Often software; sometimes hardware. We figure out which.

Board-Level Repairs

The specialty jobs — where most shops give up

These go on our solder-bench queue. Our solder tech is in a couple times a week, so realistic turnaround is longer than a walk-in repair — we will give you a real ETA at drop-off. Available for any console: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch.

HDMI port replacement

A yanked cable damages the port. Board-level micro-soldering. PlayStation, Xbox, Switch — all covered.

Liquid metal replacement (PS5)

After a dust clean, the next step for hot/loud PS5s. Restores stock temps and noise levels. Also available as an add-on to any PS5 disassembly work.

Hall Effect / TMR stick upgrades

Drift-proof magnetic sticks for controllers. Costs a bit more than a standard fix — and does not come back with drift in a year.

Water & liquid damage

Spilled a drink? Bring it in fast. We clean, inspect, and repair corrosion damage. Board-level work if the damage got that far.

Board-level repair

Blown components, damaged traces, IC replacement — the fixes most shops write off as unrepairable. See Soldering & Micro-Soldering.

Weird issues

Something odd going on with your console that does not fit any category above? Bring it in. See Weird Issues & Devices.

Add-On Service

Doing anything with a PS5? Add liquid metal.

If we already have your PS5 open — HDMI port, thermal clean, fan replacement, anything — the liquid metal replacement is a minor add. Ask for it at drop-off and we will bundle it into your quote. Not just for HDMI repairs.

FAQ

Common questions

My console will not turn on / has power issues. Can you fix it?

Yes — power issues are one of the most common console repairs we see. Won't turn on, keeps shutting off, no video output, dies mid-game. Could be a bad power supply, a blown fuse, a burnt component on the board, or something deeper. We diagnose and quote before we open anything.

My console runs hot and loud. What can you do?

Start with a dust clean and fresh thermal paste — often that alone brings the noise and temperature back to normal. For PS5s where it is worse than dust, the next step is liquid metal replacement (the liquid metal between the APU and heatsink can dry, pump out, or shift over the years). Xbox and Switch have their own thermal quirks we can address too.

My HDMI port is broken — do you replace those?

Yes, on any console — PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch. The HDMI port is physically fragile and a yanked cable damages it. Realistic turnaround: we have a queue and our solder tech is in a couple times a week, so plan on this taking longer than a walk-in repair. We will give you a realistic ETA when you drop it off.

My disc drive won't read discs or is stuck.

We diagnose and repair console disc drives — mechanical issues, laser assembly problems, stuck discs, drives that will not eject. Depending on the specific problem, this ranges from a clean-and-lubricate up to a full drive replacement.

My controller drifts, does not charge, or has stuck buttons.

Stick drift is one of the most common controller fixes. We can clean and recalibrate the existing sticks, or install drop-in Hall Effect or TMR replacement sticks that physically cannot drift the way originals do. Charging issues, sticky buttons, cracked shells — all in scope.

My Switch Joy-Con drifts.

Joy-Con drift is basically a guarantee with enough use. We replace the analog stick module and recalibrate. Hall Effect upgrades available too. Usually same-day.

How long do console repairs take?

Stick drift fixes, fan cleaning, controller work, disc drive cleaning, and software resets are usually same-day. HDMI port replacement and board-level work go on our solder-bench queue — realistic turnaround depends on where we are in the queue and when our solder tech is next in. We will always give you a real ETA at drop-off.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes — lifetime coverage on the part we installed and our labor on that repair, for as long as you own the device. It does not cover new damage (drops, liquid, cracks after pickup) or problems not caused by our part or our work. Warranty repairs jump to the top of our repair list.
